Toll Bar Roundabout-tree and vegetation removal
We recently received the following email from Mark Gibbons, Major Transport Project Manager, Engie;
With regards to the Toll Bar Junction Improvement project, we will be carrying out some vegetation removal works for two days on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 February, during off-peak hours.
The works are required to remove some of the trees and limited hedgerow on the roundabout and areas around it before the start of the bird nesting season in March.
The nearest rosebed to the roundabout on Station Road will be also removed but closer to the start date in July, once we have worked with New Waltham Parish Council and community to relocate it.
The following works will be carried out at the end of February:
- Removal of five trees on the roundabout central island, other low vegetation will remain for now
- The cutting back of one tree and removal of one on the B1219 Station Road (East)
- Removal of 75m of hedgerow on the A16 South arm.
The project team did look at relocating the trees but the cost and the chances of them surviving a move did not make it viable.
Instead, when the scheme is complete, 11 new trees will be planted around the junction along with other shrubs and plants.
Localised temporary traffic management will be in place while the works take place to ensure that it is carried out as safely as possible. To reduce the impact of the works, the traffic management will only be in operation between 9.30am and 3.30pm and is likely to see the section of the roundabout being worked on reduced down to one lane.
If you have any queries or questions regarding about the above work please contact us by calling 01472 324659 or emailing mark.gibbons@nelincs.gov.uk

Holton Le Clay Fixed Stopover Site for Travelers
The following statement has been issued by North East Lincs Council regarding the suggested use of the airfield in Holton Le Clay as a fixed stopover site for gypsy travelers:
A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesperson said:
The process for allocating land to be a potential designated stop-over site is understandably quite complex.
In order to understand whether a site is suitable or not for this purpose, we have to undergo a technical consultation, whether or not that site is in or out of North East Lincolnshire.
In this case, the site is outside the borough. No decisions of any kind have been made.
If anyone would like to give their opinions on this please contact NELC by email on:
consultation@nelincs.gov.uk
Technical Consultation ends next Tuesday

Your thoughts on the car parking facilities in Waltham.
With many attractive shops and eating establishments and an ever growing village Waltham has become a popular place to live, shop, eat out and work.
Waltham Parish Council is aware that parking within the two primary car parks (Kirkgate and High Street) in Waltham is at a premium with cars usually waiting for spaces to become available and this has a knock on effect for the residential streets surrounding the centre of the village.
The High Street (or Co-op) car park is privately owned, whilst the Kirkgate car park is owned by North East Lincolnshire Council. There are short term 30 minute spaces as you enter Kirkgate car park for the use of people wishing to nip into the shops and further long term free parking all day in the rest of the area. The High Street car park – also a free car park has no time restrictions.
Waltham Parish Council is seeking the views of its residents and visitors on their experiences of parking in the centre of the village and how you suggest it could be improved. Whilst we have no authority to change the current arrangements, we are always willing to assist our residents and put forward suggestions made to the relevant parties that could make a difference for everyone.
If you would like to get in touch regarding parking in the village please email to:
Walthampc@btconnect.com or fill in the “contact us” section on our website or for those without email facilities please write to: Waltham Parish Council, Parish Office, Kirkgate, Waltham, Grimsby DN37 0LS.
